A Few Things You Can Do With a Facebook Page
- People can "fan" your page. A mini version of your logo will show up on their profiles. You can't "friend" people with your page, but people can "fan" your page.
- Send "Updates" to your fans to tell them when you have a new product, special coupon codes, or anything else you think of.
- Add applications to make your page interactive and interesting to look at. Not all applications are available for pages yet. A developer for a specific application needs to make a version for a Page.
- And lots more.
Ready to make one? Ok. You'll need a little bit of time to be creative and you'll need a special logo.
- Click here, or if you are logged into Facebook, scroll to the very bottom of your screen.
- In the footer links, look for the link that says Advertising. Click it.
- You may be presented with two options. On the right, where it says "Facebook Pages," look a little beneath it and click "+ Create Facebook Page".
- It will now ask you demographic information. Fill this out, and type in the name of your Facebook Page. Choose wisely, because you can't change it.
- Proceed as prompted!
- Next steps will be adding different applications to the page to jazz it up a bit. For starters, I love Big Photo and Profile HTML.
- To activate your page, you will need to "Publish" it. There will be a link to prompt you to do this.
- In the future, to manage it, a link called "Ads and Pages" will always be on the left, as shown below. Follow these same directions to create one of those Facebook social ads. To manage, you will click this link to access both areas.

To get some fans, you might want to share it with your friends. On the side of your page, after you publish it, you will see a "Share with friends" link. Click it, and then you will need to type in your friends. If this link is not here, look for a + sign that is just below this list. At this moment, Facebook does not have an option where you are presented with a list of your friends that you can select. That would be much easier, of course. For now, you have to type them in. Facebook will complete the name as you type.

That should be it! You are ready to make a Page in Facebook. Good luck!

Thanks so much! Very helpful!
how do i advertise it on myspace , so people can click on it and go to my fan page
Glad I could help!
To advertise your Facebook Page on MySpace of any other website, you would need to create your own graphic, maybe put a Facebook created little image on it called "Find us at Facebook" and link the image to your Facebook page. Your MySpace may have a tool where you can enter HTML, or one that lets you upload an image and assign a link to it.
If you look to the top right of this blog, I created such a graphic for Home Office Collectives.
Good luck!
Hi Mista,
I was just wondering how you could personalize the boxes in the fan page. I see your page has one with an image of the chicago tribune, and another one has newsletters and such. I just wanted to add a newsletters box like you as well as some other features I saw, like a "FAN US" vertical banner and a poll. Is this possible to personalize? I can't find an answer on facebook :(
thanks for your help!
Hey Girl,
It's a great question, and I've been asked it before, actually. Those images, like "fan this on facebook" was created by me. I personally went into my graphics program, Adobe Illustrator, and put some images together. I 'lifted' that little blue "find us in facebook" rectangle and placed it into a graphic design I created. I then saved the image, and used it in those HTML boxes. The image has to be 'hosted' somehwere, and those are hosted on my server for www.katie-james.com. Some people use PhotoBucket or Flickr to host images. This means that an image has to live on a website somewhere, and unless you have a website to zoom it up to, you could use these other programs.
Hope that was not confusing. Looks like I need to write a post on this...
Thanks for your question!
thanks!
thanks a million.... need more people like u around...
thank you, it's really works.
search for the new page i created, but it's yet to be add some info.
"peterite basketball"
Hi there! I just created a page for my company. We have 15 fans already however, I can't see who they are as the admin and as a fan of the page. Am I doing something wrong as an admin? Or, will the fan's show up after I have a certain amount??
Hey there,
Congrats on your new page! The fans should be showing in the right column or down in the middle of the page...You did "publish" the page, right? That link to publish would be in a top right corner. I think you'd have to of, if you have fans...What is the link to your page?
Mista, thanks for writing back! I am published but there aren't any fans on the right side. My page is http://www.facebook.com/ads/manage/index.php?new_adgroup_id=6002229694267&act=36765186#/pages/Home-Warranty-of-America-Inc/35183763969
Thanks for any help!

This is the real link actually
Hi,
This is a little stumper...there must be something in your settings that is not allowing the fans to display. I just became a fan, and it displayed in my Newsfeed with the logo and information. Then it also shows in my Pages for my profile. However, on my newsfeed, while it did let people click on the link, it did not say "become a fan" as it normally does. Did you fill out the age restriction to at least +13? Am thinking of what else can be causing it b/c yes, your fans should be showing up.
Tsanksss
Thanks for the info. Couldn't figure out this complicated process lol.
Thanks, I hava already built my page:

i keep trying to create a musician fan page, and it continues to make a personal page!!! can you help me??? i am sooooo confused and i am sure this is simple and i am missing something?
help!!!
thanks@@@
Thank you for explaining the fan page! It was very helpful.
So, I've got my Fan page set up, but I want it to have visibility on my personal profile page. Is there a way to do this?
Hey Brad,
It used to be that you could put code on your profile page, and use an application like ProfileHTML to do so. However, with Facebook's redesign in Fall of 2008, they removed that capability. Now, those things are limited to the Info tab, which is above your main profile, and is something I for which never click on :( If I think of something else, or if anyone has a different answer, chime in!
Great info! I like the tutorial, i needed it last week!
But got through it.
One ?? how did you set up the email form?
I became a fan of yours. look me up
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Woodstock-GA/Optimum-Body-Sculpting/49291533554
Hi Carol,
Which email form are you talking about? If you're referring to the email that you send out from your Facebook page, then no, I did not customize that...so far, I just decorate them with text characters, like *** or ### or things like that.
Will you marry me?
IT girl. I like it. Thanks for your help.
My question:
1) When I created a Fan Page I selected "other business" and "store." Can I change this type of business?
2) I'm trying to write a "Note" on my fan page but it keeps saving to my standard Facebook Personal Page. I want to keep these separate but haven't found a way to "write a note" just to publish on my fan page even though I'm selecting the new note link on my fan page? Very confused.
Can you help?
Hey Anonymous,
Oh how interesting. Looks like Facebook has just recently made Pages to be more like Profiles. This may be why the Note is showing up on your personal page. I will have to upgrade my pages and test these.
Will get back with hopefully an answer to your questions.
How do you contact the fan page admin directly? Is there a way to do that? Thanks!
Stumbled across your blog. Quick question: do you need to have a profile page to create a fan page? It used to be that you needed a profile page to create one, but I think with all the changes as of late this is no longer the case. If you could offer some help, I would appreciate it. Thank you!
I have the same question as Annoymous' #2 Why do my posts on my business page have to show up on my personal page? My personal friends don't need to be bombarded with that. My fan page is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nelms-Photographic-Artistry/21093299994?ref=ts You are the most wonderful person to help us out! I will buy whatever your advertisers are selling!
thanx for sharing.this is really good post.
I know it saids that if it is unoffical or something, that your account will be deleted. Do they really do that?
Yes, Facebook really will delete your personal profile account if you treat it as a business account. That is why they developed the Fan Page...So, when you are first signing up for a Facebook account, and are making your personal profile, be sure to make it your name and do not post your logo as your picture. That's a red flag for sure. For business purposes, develop a Fan Page.
Huge help...CUTE PICTURE. Thanks, sweetie. Look me up on Facebook sometime. Barry Ford, Memphis
awesome! thank you!!

Thanks for the help!
hi there, your tutorial was awesome. I just made a page for my company and for some reason I cannot search for it in the facebook search box. Is there something I need to select or how does it work?
Thanks
Hey M,
Usually, with the new pages, Facebook has have a day or two to index it. So, after a week or so, check for it in the search. Congrats!
Hi there!
I am building our fan page (The Official NeighbourhoodAlert.ca Page) and am trying to figure out how I can post pdf's on the page for fans to download - or at least view, or view/print.
To explain: We are a neighbourhood alerting service for missing and found pets (www.neighbourhoodalert.ca) - Launching before June 1st/2009. When we receive an alert, I would like to post the "missing pet poster" in pdf format to the page so that everyone can see it. Size matters - as pictures need to be clearly seen and information about the pet readable.
The download or view/print requirement stems from a Monthly eBook we are offering for free that includes freebies, discounts etc - from our advertisers.
Blog: You mention that a blog can be linked into the facebook page? My blog is going to be on our company website using wordpress. Am I able to still do this, and if so how?
How does our twitter account (PetAlerts) link into our facebook fan page?
Your time and consideration of all my questions is greatly appreciated! Thank you.
ps: Links to apps I can offer our fans would be great.
Thanks very much.
Your tutorial really helps.
Thanks so much! Very helpful.
wawww....i'm boy but this is useful...THX alot!!!!

Here is the fan page I just created, still bare bones but working on it!
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chaiv/89401989311
Can we invite someone become a fan??
Each time i try to make a business page, right after i fill out the part where it asks for my "electronic signature" it tells me i need to make a Facebook Profile then my page ends up exactly like a regular facebook page...is there something i am doing wrong?
Thanx dude..... very helpful...i made a page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gizmo-Games/98582924820?ref=mf.
do you have to pay to have a Facebook fan page?
Question: Is there any way to export the names (or other information) of fans to a program outside of Facebook?
I read about a program called Fonebook, which allows you to export your Facebook friends' photos, profile web addresses, about me details and status details into Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007. Is there a program like this that would work with Windows Mail, Microsoft Excel or another program?
Thanks! Love the blog :)
I will look into that!
Thanks for looking into the exporting of data from Facebook, Mista! I haven't found anything from doing my own research, but I will let you know if I do!
Another question: Is there any way to target Updates to specific Fans on a Fan Page? Facebook allows you to target Updates by age, gender and location ... but that seems to be it. I don't think there is a way to do this, but if someone has a workaround, I'd be interested to know what it is!
Thanks!
Im trying to create a fan pages but I keep getting an error messages that my signature has to be the same as the name which i used to create the pages. the name on the pages is Stefhen fd Bryan, which exactly what I write in the signature box, but still getting an error message.
Wow. Great tutorial.
Thanks! ;)
Thank you, this is the best information I have found!! I will go now and give it a try!

Here I was setting up a personal Facebook account for my Etsy shop, thinking, "hmmm...this doesn't seem right." You made a great tutorial. Exactly what I was looking for! :)
"Note: Fake Pages and unofficial "fan pages" are a violation of our Pages Guidelines. If you create an unauthorized Page or violate our Pages Guidelines in any way, your Facebook account may be disabled. To create a Facebook Group for fans of this subject, please click here"
you're pretty much telling everyone to violate facebooks terms. congrats
How did you add pictures in "boxes" on the fan page on facebook? Did you add it to photo and transfer it so how?
thanks for this article. the steps are quite straightforward. helped a lot.
question - i opened a facebook account specifically to start a fan page for my husband (and you cant have a fan page without an account i guess). i i have my account and my husband's fan page. i have a ton of photos that i need to upload to his fan page, and the 5 at a time option wont work for me since there are so many) - so when i try to export them thru iphoto, they export to MY account page, not his fan page. i dont see an option to export to his fan page.
